Issues definitions

1. Domestic abuse: The physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children by family members or family friends.

2. HIV/AIDS: Those suffering the consequences of AIDS or HIV infection, or caring for AIDS sufferers.

3. Commercial Exploitation: Exploitation of children for economic gain, such as through bonded labour, prostitution or trafficking.

4. Drugs & Addiction: The unhealthy use of alcohol and drugs (both medical and recreational) including general and addition-based usage.

5. Institutionalisation: The housing or placement of children within environments where their needs are not adequately addressed. The housing or placement of children in environments where careers do not have sufficient time or inclination to help the children in their care.

6. Orphans & Child-headed Households: Children who have lost or been estranged from their parents.
Children who now carry parental responsibilities e.g. child-headed household.

7. Prejudice Children: who suffer from forced cultural practices (e.g. forced marriage, female circumcision etc). Children who experience persecution because of their experiences and/or beliefs.
8. Displacement: Children who have been displaced within their own country (IDPs) or to another country as a result of natural or human disaster or political policy.

9. Street Children: Children who live on the streets, work on the streets or retreat to the streets to escape unhappy homes.

10.Unborn children at risk: The unborn foetus.

11. War: Children who have been recruited as child soldiers, or who are suffering trauma as a result of war experiences.
